At a height of 330 feet, the siliceous slopes of Ham Rocks dominate the Vire Valley and its meandering path through the bocage of Saint-Lô Country. Heathland, dry grassland, wooded slopes, caves, fissures, damp meadows and streams are home to a multitude of species that ensure the perennial natural wealth of Manche’s oldest protected site. A pleasant trip through the site will undoubtedly uncover autumn squill, a small, late-flowering member of the lily family, as well as sunny river banks buzzing with the field cricket’s inimitable stridulation.
