Join us at the Archives Départementales de la Manche on November 6 for the Altaïr lecture "Guyane"- A film by Yohann Brichet.

If you're a fan of wilderness adventures, then you've come to the right place.
By plane, pirogue or on foot, you'll discover a wild land of unsuspected riches.
Our expeditions along ancient, abandoned trails will take us on the trail of the penal colony, forgotten relics and gold mines.
We'll meet the Kali?na Amerindians, who share their territory with the world's largest turtles, or Grand Master Sawani Makan, founder of Djokan, the Guyanese martial art.
From legionnaires to the space center, a great adventure awaits you!

A school teacher, Yohann Brichet has a passion for travel and is always on the lookout for new adventures. He has traveled through France, Louisiana, French Guiana and California.
During his experiences, he gradually dropped the schoolbag to pick up the camera and film his discoveries.
For two years, he criss-crossed French Guiana, and now shares his experience with us through the images he brought back from this little piece of Amazonia, a land of many riches. His film on French Guiana is his first major project.

Film summary:

In this remote overseas region, we embark on a journey of history, culture and tourism. Through fifteen or so stages, we'll discover exceptional places and unusual encounters. Yohann Brichet takes us on foot, by plane, 4x4 or pirogue.

Through his eyes, we discover where Amerindians, Hmongs, Creoles, legionnaires, bushinengues, convicts? descendants or engineers at the space center, garimpeiros in a gold mine or teachers from mainland France live.

But it's also a real journey through time to experience: the first natives, colonization, slavery, the gold rush, the creation of the prison, the European space base... are all elements that have marked the history of this region.

The backdrop for this expedition is the immense equatorial forest, with its unique ecosystem, and the many rivers that criss-cross it.

So many encounters, so many different facets, so many adventures to experience.

For Guiana is a land of contrasts: many communities have preserved their traditional way of life, while living in this little piece of Europe lost in the Amazon, and indeed one of the richest regions in South America.

This journey is an authentic expedition, a journey to the heart of a preserved territory that is unique in the world.
