Ile Mosselman

Au XIXème siècle, à l’initiative du Baron Mosselman et de sa société “Compagnie de la Vire”, la Vire fut canalisée pour transporter à moindre frais, et en grosse quantité, la tangue. Le projet était de mettre en communication toutes les rivières navigables du Cotentin jusqu’à Carentan, la canalisation de la Vire s’étend sur 21 kilomètres. En 1859, la baron fit un essai de pisciculture avec un dépôt de saumon du Rhin, des truites et bien d’autres dans la Vire, en vain.
